Hi Nosferatu, are the opening exercises like our flag salute here in the states? If so, yes I remember it so vividly. I always dreaded the beginning of the school year. Would I have an understanding teacher or not ? What was even worse was at a ball game or at a school assembly you had to sit during the national anthem, then you really stick out like a sore thumb. You kind of forget about it but then when you go to school with your child for an event and it catches you off guard when the pledge starts, you realize what you are putting them through all over again. It was so nice to not have to run up to the school this year and explain a bunch a beliefs, like birthdays, to the teachers. We are kind of just taking on things one at a time right now and talking about it as a family. Don't think I'll ever be a big Halloween celebrater, some habits die hard.

Never Believed in the Resurrection Hope - Nor the Witnesses Crazy Ideas
by flipper ini will list a number of my doubts on this subject as it was one teaching that pissed me off - as i feel it caused jehovah's witnesses not to mourn properly at funerals and show authentic compassion to others - as well as held out false hope for a " fantasyland " paradise .
these reasons i list here actually were and are taught by jehovah's witnesses as fact !
listen to how bizarre this sounds.

I did actually believe it all for most of my life because it was spoon fed to me from infancy. When you are an adult and are expected to teach your children or your bible studies this stuff and they ask the really tough questions, I started to question it myself. The no marriage thing really bothered me. It really is alot of confabulation based on one scripture. Why do they insist on having an answer to "everything"? I am really really confused right now about what happens after we die. I would love to just sit down and read the bible but every time I try, JW doctrine just clouds my understanding and I give up. Don't you hate to think this is it? Just live our life and take the dirt nap as you say.

So many older folks, including my family members, think that computers are literally the devil incarnate and the internet is strictly for porn and other satan stuff.
Troubled mind- if you ever get those old books down, I'll bring the marshmallows to the bonfire!

I have to say I never thought about it until I read CoC and until I saw a site about the new GB members who are annointed and in their late 50's. I don't know where I was! What was I thinking about? I do remember the stir about the new light in 1995, I was in the midst of raising a very small child (brain dead) and the one time I did ask about it, I got"where else are you going to go ? If armegeddon was never going to come, would you live your life any different? Those comments just shut me up for a while and I kept going. Who has time to study when you are getting ready for all the meetings and service? Blondie, I have never given it a second thought that Jesus mediates the 144,000 only! It is really laughable that I was pushing something down my kid's throats that I don't even understand.

FRUGALITY: How CRAZY did you go with it?
by Dogpatch inhere's a topic i just haven't seen to my recall.. how nutty did you go with having little possessions and intentionally choosing lesser pay for more "spirituality" as a witness?.
my situation is somewhat comical by today's standards.
at bethel in the mid 70s i got $14 a month to spend.

Being raised by two special pioneers, that was my whole childhood. I remember staying in peoples homes for 8 day assemblies( Instead of the Holiday Inn with the pool), living in a trailer, out in service in the cold every sat. morning(instead of at home in my jammies watchhing Casper). Just basically deprived of normal childhood in every way. Sorry Dogpatch, after growing up that way, I like the comforts of life. Could not have done it as an adult. I give you credit for doing what you thought was right. You are a good person.

Are we really all that far apart concerning "family values"?
by restrangled inrepublican, democrat, independent, or anywhere around the world.....we all want to raise happy, well adjusted children.
so why is it, the republicans in america claim they are the family value party.. are we not all valuing families?.
it is obvious that abstinence/no education or education for teenagers regarding sex seems to make no difference.....its going to depend on the teenager.

You are right (or left). It's not like one side are blood drinking, baby killing, devil worshipers and the other side cloaked in the American flag, eating apple pie. I think we are all basically the same and want the same things, just very different ideas on "how" we get there.

Do you have an Italian store in your neighborhood? You can serve great appetizer from the deli , Italian cheese, olives, meats. Fresh italian bread with olive oil. Sometimes you can purchase frozen dough to make a simple Tuscan style pizza. For dessert ask for un filled canolli shells that you can fill fresh. Amaretti cookies, some spumoni with fresh fruit and wine are good for dessert too.

I struggle with this everyday, every minute, do I keep doing something that makes me and my whole immediate family miserable while our parents are still around? How long might that be, a long time, I hope. I could be a Sunday only person and I tried that towards the end, but you know how it is they just hound you at every meeting about doing more. Or you are under the microscope "there must be a reason this family isn't doing more" and investigations are launched. I just want to be left alone. My parents really are not questioning much right now, kind of walking around on egg shells. The elders call here all the time, I just don't want to have that meeting, they find a reason to disfellowship me and I can never talk to my parents again. It's really a tightrope act.

So are my JW friends really my friends - or not?
by BonaFide ini am being investigated judicially, although weeks are going by without the elders saying anything to me about it.
i still comment and give my talks.. anyway, some of my friends are getting word about me being investigated, some in my family too.
a couple i used to preach with every week no longer call me and bug me to join them.

No they are not real friends. They are conditional friends. Your brother is your friend. The fact that he'll still have you after you've shunned him. He is your friend!
